All my friends had to ask me something they didn't understand, now: How I get all the women
Photos from the San Diego Fandom Polar Den Party (22-Oct-2005) are now online, as are the photos from the Anime Picnic in Escondido (23-Oct-2005). Click on the picture of darrelx and Alison Stern to see the Polar Den pix.
Saturday library_lynn had to work. So we decided that I would head out to the party under my own power, and she'd drive down after her shift at work. I loaded the cooler with sodas per usual, put it in the back of her car, and headed down to the office to get some animelosangeles flyers to bring along. ( I turned around and made it to the Anaheim Amtrak station about half an hour before the train... )
There were other events competing for that weekend as well, so it was a small turnout. I saw caprine and duckflambe, of course, and got some photos. (Of course.) It was a gloomy day, but the firepit was cheery and we barbecued meats on the bbq. library_lynn got turned around trying to get from the freeway to the house, but Darrel navigated her in, and she joined us sometime between 8 and 9.
Allison (L.) serenaded us around the campfire for a while. Alison (S.) left to go to another party in San Diego, a filk thing. We had some s'mores, and talked about whether toasted marshmallows were really edible. At the end of the evening -- which for us was 10-ish -- we headed back to the hotel, had a good night's sleep and a fair breakfast, and went to our second engagement that weekend.
It was drizzly in the morning, in Mission Valley. ( We stopped by the Food4Less at Hazard Center to fill out the soda selection in the cooler, and went up to Escondido where some young anime fans (some active on Cosplay.com Forums) had organized a picnic... )
We're not going to do that again. That is, when Lynn has to work a full day on Saturday, we're not going to have her drive two hours to a party in San Diego. It wasn't that bad at Conjecture, when she drove down on Saturday and had to go to work on Sunday, and it was just a tedious traffic-full drive to meet me in Woodland Hills for the birthday party last weekend. But a full day plus the longer drive, nope, not going to happen.
