For the benefit of Mr. Kite, there will be a show tonight on trampoline...
Part fourteen in my intermittent series on ribbons I have known. Today I'll talk about some of the ribbons that I tried in 2003, and never reordered. I mentioned annoying Parker Systems with large orders of small quantities of ribbons, abusing their "free set-up" policy. These were some of the titles I ordered five or ten of, in my last order that they filled for me. Only one style remains in my collection; I haven't re-ordered any of them.

  • CANADIAN
  • SHY
  • HOGU WINNER
"Canadian" was a ribbon I'd seen at ConFusion; Parker did them in red/white (red ribbon, white printing). But I don't run into that many Canadians, most of the time, except when I go to a Canadian convention.

"Shy" is one of those ribbons that's really tough to give away -- how do you get someone who needs one to accept it?

"Hogu Winner" actually makes a certain amount of sense. The "Hogus" are the hoax awards, most of which (like the Raspberries) are awarded to people who won't be accepting the dubious honor. But a few Hogus have been issued to fans who have accepted them, such as Dick Smith who won a Hogu for "worst fanzine title." (Uncle Dick's Little Thing.) This would be another ribbon I'd need to put in the hands of Mike Glyer and Elst Weinstein. Or they could order some themselves.

  • OH, BOTHER
  • TARDIS PILOT
  • THAUMATURGIST
"Oh, bother" was one of [info]colleency's suggestions. Pooh's classic sentiment resonates for her, and she said it might be good for a ribbon. But it's a tough one to give away; also, it's easily misread by many people as "Oh, brother."

"TARDIS Pilot" is a nice little whovian ribbon. I gave a stack to Diana Daugherty to hand out at her Ambrosia table at Loscon one year. Maybe this one should make a comeback, now that Doctor Who is back on the air?

"Thaumaturgist" is a special for [info]obishawn, who puts that on on his resumé and portfolio. But the problem here is that there are so many ribbons that Shawn receives or is entitled to on a routine basis. I have a few left, but when they're gone I don't think I'll reorder them.
