I know you're out there somewhere, somewhere, somewhere
[Maria's Graduation] Maria has earned her AA degree from Fullerton College. Commencement ceremonies were Wednesday night. (Photos online now.) They carefully scheduled the event so their official photographer can get photos of the grads in daylight as they come off the stage, but it's dark as soon as the ceremony's over so the family photos are crap. I wish I'd thought to find her in the line pre-ceremony, like I did for her high school graduation! Oh well, I'll remember that for next time. She's taking one more class (a yoga class) over the summer to get one more transfer credit to qualify for her entry into the University of California system. Her first choice is still UCLA, and UC Irvine is back in second place again; she won't know if UCLA wants her until after the cutoff date to get her non-refundable deposit into UCI, so she's a little cranky about that. (I told her to consider the extra $100 the premium for getting the college she wants; I'd expect her to be even crankier if getting her second-choice hotel cost her more money...)

I've got to drive to Baycon and Fanime tonight. A peculiar thing - Craige posted a note to SMOFS saying he was off to Fanime at the San Jose Hilton, but that hotel's not listed as one of that convention's sites. Guess I'll puzzle it out after I get there. I know how to find Baycon's hotel, so I'm going to go there first and then check out Fanime on Saturday or Sunday. Double-convention weekend, whee!

Speaking of conventions this weekend, Balticon is going on this weekend. There was a dealer, Larry Sands, the time I attended Balticon, selling leather belts. Anyone know how to get ahold of him? Address, phone number, e-mail? Or if you see him this weekend, you could even call me on my cell phone. Please? I want to buy another belt...

I'm not the Wreck of the Hesperus, feel more like the Wall of China
[Lynn holding tomatoes and lettuce] Swept through Hazel's Picture Gallery and turned all the sideways recently-uploaded photos rightside-up, like this picture of library_lynn at the San Diego in 2006 Westercon Bid Meeting and Barbecue. If you see any that are still 90 degrees off, please let me know!

I'm caught up with uploading the photos to-date (again, not counting some little batches of things that caught my eye) themselves. Now to work on the new captions, categories, and links...

Desmond has a barrow in the marketplace
Long day.

Left work, drove for hours, arrived San Jose Doubletree (Baycon) at midnight, checked into a room. Tried to check out L.A.con IV party, but the door dragons on the 2nd floor turned me back because I had no badge. They told me Reg was still open, and I had my checkbook in my pocket, so I went downstairs to the first floor. But there they turned me away because I'd left my driver's license in my room, so I had to go back up to the 8th floor. Went up to 8, back down to 1, up to 2 again after I got my badge, and by then they'd shut down the party.

Oh well.

Stopped at Kevin and Andy's "League of Evil Geniuses" (CostumeCon) party. Stopped at johno and chriso's party, got myself a "Live Journal" badge. Shades of the badges EPS used to make for the @! parties...

I'm booked into this hotel, and Baycon, for tonight; checkout is noon, they don't have any vacancies Saturday night. But I have a reservation over at the Hilton attached to the convention center for Fanime on Saturday. Then back here to the Doubletree for another day of Baycon and staying over Sunday night. I'm going to spend half my weekend checking in and out of hotels!

I'm having some fun here, taking photos, handing out silly ribbons. Saw karisu_sama, saw a bunch of other LJ friends here...
