Where would you like to be in January?
EDIT: The hotel double-booked our February weekend, so we've moved to the last weekend in January.
Tonight I signed a contract for animelosangeles and put a deposit down.
Our liaison has spent many hours negotiating us a deal at the Airtel Plaza Hotel, with the result that I can now announce that Animé Los Angeles will be 28-30 January 2005, opening on Friday afternoon and running all the way through Sunday, in a hotel with room rates of $79 plus tax for single/double ($89 triple, $99 quad), and parking of $5 for the day or $8 overnight for registered hotel guests. Stay at our hotel -- don't drive home, there's dancing and other fun things at night (besides the all-night video programs)! Everything's happening under one roof, you don't have to walk a quarter mile from your room just to get to the right building. Tell them you're coming for "Animé L.A." to make sure you get the low convention rate.
I can tell you that we have a hotel that, while it's never had an animé convention, it has hosted fannish conventions for many years and is used to people running around in strange outfits. ("Gallifrey One" has been there for umpteen years, "Costume College" ditto, and some years "Con-Chord.")
It's within walking distance of a couple of fast food places, it's about a mile from a supermarket... and we'll have a con suite with snacks and sodas for all attendees. (You don't have to spend a small fortune just to eat, so you'll have more money to spend in the dealer's room.)
As soon as I can update the website, pre-registered memberships are $30 payable to Anime Los Angeles (or paypal to "firstname.lastname@example.org"). Student rate is $25 if you send it with a photocopy of your student ID or report card to Anime Los Angeles, PO Box 5310, Play Del Rey CA 90293.
